From April 29 to May 3, 2024, a series of lectures on “Modern Nuclear Physics and Its Applications” were held by the delegation of Dubna’s Joint Nuclear Research Institute (JNRI) at Khazar University. Faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students and doctoral students of Khazar University’s School of Sciences and Engineering, along with guests from other organizations and universities, were invited to listen to the lectures. The lectures continued for 5 days in the form of discussions and garnered great interest.
On April 29, an official meeting was held between the delegation of the Joint Nuclear Research Institute of Dubna and the management of Khazar University. During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of developing cooperation between JNRI and Khazar University. Engineering, natural and information sciences, theoretical and applied physics, chemistry, biology, nanotechnology and mathematics were discussed among the most promising areas of interaction. The meeting was attended by Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, chairman of the Board of Directors and trustees, Irada Khalilova, rector of the university, Mahammad Nuriyev, vice-rector for Academic Affairs, Isakhan Isakhanli, vice-rector for Management and Student Affairs, Fakhranda Afendiyeva, dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering, Ludmila Sotova, director of the Quality Assurance Center, Raziya Isayeva, director of the Development Office, Farida Tatardar, head of Physics and Electronics Department, Ali Huseynli, head of Mathematics Department, Elshan Abdullayev, head of Petroleum Engineering Department, Jamala Eldarova, head of Life Sciences Department and Mehdi Kiyasatfar, coordinator of Mechanical Engineering Department. The delegation of the Joint Nuclear Research Institute included Yevgeny Yakushev, director of the V. P. Celepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, employees of that laboratory, Daniya Zinatulina, Sergey Yakovenko, Sergey Rozov, and Nazim Huseynov, the head of the national group of Azerbaijan at JNRI.
One of the main points of the work program of the trip was a series of lectures organized by the delegation of the Celepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of JNRI. On the other hand, enhancing relations between Khazar University and JNRI in the field of science and education was discussed, and the organization of educational programs and internships for students studying at the university based on the scientific infrastructure of JNRI was discussed. In the discussions, it was also stated that JNRI scientists are interested in involving Khazar University in the educational process and developing cooperation in the field of academic mobility. As Hamlet Isakhanli mentioned in his comment, the purpose of the visit is to establish stronger scientific ties between Khazar University and JNRI. In the future, a number of conferences, seminars and meetings with students will be organized at Khazar University in which the leading scientists of JNRI will participate.
In the following days, the delegation of the Joint Nuclear Research Institute (JNRI) got acquainted with other campuses of Khazar University, as well as with the campuses of the Dunya School. During the visit, the delegation held fruitful discussions with the school management, and had an extensive inspection of the facilities, including classrooms, library and laboratory. In addition, the guests had the opportunity to visit the school’s Nailekhanim museum.
One of the highlights of the visit was the exploration of potential opportunities for cooperation between JNRI and the Dunya IB School. Discussions continued with the possibility of the school’s physics teachers visiting JNRI, as well as suggestions for organizing experiences for selected students of Dunya IB School.
