[:en]A “Spanish Day” event devoted to Spain, organized by the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature, was held in the Neftchilar campus conference hall on March 13. The audience consisted of teachers, students and guests. The founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, participated in the event. Opening the ceremony, Coordinator of the Department and Spanish language instructor Gunel Mammadova noted that the goal of “Spanish Day,” which was prepared by the students of Political and Regional Studies of School of Humanities and Social Sciences, was to develop awareness about Spain.
At the event prepared under the leadership of Gunel Mammadova, Spanish cities were presented skillfully by the students including Spain’s capital Madrid; Barcelona, which is considered a unique city in the world; Andalusia, a living model of the magical combination of Arabic and Spanish cultures; Valencia, distinguished by unique holidays; and Galicia, which delights the eye with beautiful nature. Historical places and sights of the cities were clearly shown with videos. The lives and works of painters as Velazquez, Goya, Picasso and Dali were discussed in conjunction with Spain’s most famous museums “El Museo del Prado” (Prado Museum) and the “El Museo de Reina Sofia” (Queen Sofia Museum). The audience was especially interested in a Spanish dance performed by students, videos, and information about soccer in Spain.
Making a speech at the end of the event, H. Isaxanli said he appreciated the initiative of the department and the students’ activities. Guests also made presentations and expressed their opinions about the event, including Angel Konde Munoz from Azerbaijan University of Languages; Maria Simonova and Alla Ovchinnikova, instructors of the Baku branch of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov; Mahir Gurbanov, Chairman of Azerbaijan and Latin America’s Youth Public Union; Jose Javier Varela from Mexico and Carlos Navaretti from El Salvador.
