New Academic Year Begins
This year, unlike in previous years, the events marking the start of the 2026–2027 academic year at Khazar University lasted three days — September 14, 15, and 16.
The first ceremonial opening event marking the start of the new academic year was held at Khazar University on September 14. The ceremony was attended by the university’s leadership, faculty deans, department heads, staff members, newly admitted students, and their parents.
After the playing of the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the floor was given to Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees. Congratulating both the university community on the new academic year and the newly admitted students and their parents, and wishing them success in the years of education ahead, Hamlet Isakhanli particularly emphasized that Khazar’s remarkable path of development, its international ties, and many other important factors had undoubtedly played a significant role in students’ choice of the university. H. Isakhanli expressed confidence that the new students would worthily continue the existing traditions, work with great responsibility, and duly justify the trust placed in them.
Dr. Razia Isaeva, Rector of Khazar University, also spoke, congratulating the newly admitted students and their parents and wishing each of them successful years of education.
Another technological step was presented at Khazar University as a symbol of innovation and the future. The robots, which bring together the capabilities of artificial intelligence and robotic technologies, express not only technological innovation but also the importance Khazar places on science, innovation, and the education of the future. The robots Aslan and Toplan were invited onto the stage to introduce participants to the technology of the future.
“Khazar’s Waltz,” with lyrics by Hamlet Isakhanli and music by Ramiz Mustafayev, was performed, along with a dance number by the university’s dance ensemble.
The support of instructors, deans, and all staff of the university plays an important role in the academic life of new students. On behalf of the academic staff of Khazar University, the floor was given to Dr. Milana Abbasova, Dean of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, to address the students.
Students of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences who scored above 600 points — Nuray Muradli, Samra Jafarli, Gular Hamzayeva, Sara Aliyeva, and Elmaddin Hasanzade — were invited onto the stage to receive gifts and student ID cards.
Afterward, Zarda Amrahova, daughter of Emin Amrahov, a martyr of the 44-day Patriotic War, who has earned the title of Khazar student, was introduced to the participants.
At the end, first-year students together took the student oath.
Throughout the day, events dedicated to the opening of the new academic year continued.
Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, as well as Dr. Razia Isaeva, Rector of Khazar and a 1999–2002 graduate of the university, conveyed their best wishes to the students and participants.
On behalf of the academic staff of Khazar University, the floor was given to Dr. Gunel Bahaddinova, Dean of the Graduate School of Science, Art and Technology, to address the students.
Nurana Mikayilova, a final-year student majoring in Clinical Psychology at the Graduate School of Science, Art and Technology and holder of the highest GPA in the faculty, shared her experience and gave recommendations to the newly admitted students.
The day’s speeches concluded with heartfelt remarks from Farid Hajizade, who was admitted this year with the highest score to the Financial Management program, speaking on behalf of the first-year students of the Graduate School of Economics and Business.
The opening events for the new academic year continued on September 15 and 16 as well. At all the events, Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Dr. Razia Isaeva, Rector of Khazar, as well as faculty and department heads, congratulated the first-year students, conveyed their best wishes, and wished them success.
At the events held that day, two more children of martyrs — Elmir Rahimzade, son of Ruslan Rahimov, who gave his life for the Motherland, and Ramaldan Ramaldanov, son of Lieutenant Colonel Babak Ramaldanov, who rose to the rank of martyr in battles against Armenian occupiers — were introduced to participants with a sense of pride and honor. Undoubtedly, by earning the title of student at such a prestigious institution as Khazar University, both Elmir and Ramaldan have brought pride to the spirits of their heroic fathers.
One of the notable moments was the participation of Sveta Agayeva, a teacher at Hajialibay Village Full Secondary School in Khachmaz District, in the ceremony. She had come to congratulate her student, Aysel Karimova, who was admitted to Khazar’s Mathematics and Computer Science Teaching program.
The event held at the Hasvet Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on September 16 stood out with certain distinctive features. Dr. Razia Isaeva, Rector of Khazar University, presented the gift, white coat, and student ID card to Khaliq Zeynalli, who was admitted to this faculty with 617 points. Afterward, the white coat ceremony began for the faculty’s students.
This was followed by the symbolic “Khazar Journey” ceremony, representing the passing on of Khazar University’s academic traditions and values to the new generation of students. Upper-year student Yegana Bahadirova presented first-year student Khaliq Zeynalli with the university’s symbol — the specially designed “Khazar” badge — and Hamlet Isakhanli’s book “In Search of Khazar,” so that he could learn more deeply about Khazar’s history.
Indeed, Khazar University begins the new academic year with great goals, new initiatives, and confidence in the future.
