On January 29-February 1, 2024, the International Scientific Conference “II International Rasulzade Readings” will be held in Baku. The organizers of the conference are “M.A. Rasulzade House Museum” Public Group, National Azerbaijan History Museum, Khazar University, Ankara University, Warsaw University and VMF company.
On January 29, within the framework of the conference, the memorial evening of Tadeusz Svetochovski, a renowned Polish and American historian, one of the first foreign researchers of the history of Azerbaijan in the 20th century, a great friend of Azerbaijan, Honorary Doctor of Khazar University, was held in the Marble Hall of Khazar University.
Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University, chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, opened the event and detailed the scientific activities and works of the outstanding historian related to Azerbaijan. He noted that Svetochovsky had close relations with Khazar University. His book “Russia and Azerbaijan: A Borderland in Transition” was translated by the university and published by the university publishing house. Svetochovski is the first foreign specialist to be awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Khazar University.
At the event, Professor Solmaz Tohidi, Dr. Farda Asadov (Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS), Professor Gulu Muharramli and others talked about various aspects of Svetochovsky’s work related to Azerbaijan.
The guests of the event – Jan Malishi, head of the Institute of East European Studies of the University of Warsaw and David Kolbai, the head of the Caucasian studies seminar of the institute, expressed their views on the topic and shared their memories in their extensive speeches. In the end, Jan Malishi presented a gift to Hamlet Isakhanli.
